K'NEX: Building Thrill Rides
Temporary Exhibit [Return to listing page]
Sunday, November 07, 2010 - Monday, January 17, 2011
Tap a well of imagination while creating your own heart-stopping theme park ride using K'NEX construction kits! These ever-popular sets have evolved from hand cranks and rigid tools to motorized wheels, pulleys, and flexible pieces, allowing for endless design possibilities.
Explore the science and engineering that goes into creating a pulse-pounding theme park experience when you check out the exhibit's astounding amusement park models, including several six-foot Ferris wheels and a ten-foot roller coaster. Then, get started on building your own twisting, looping thrill ride with a bounty of colorful rods and connectors.
Visitors age five and older can build a free takeaway windmill (download a how-to preview below), or create a more ambitious thrill ride and stop at the "Weigh and Pay" station to take it home.
Be sure to allow plenty of time to build your creations, especially during busy school and holiday vacation weeks, or before any ticketed events you may be attending at the Museum.
