Cahners ComputerPlace Volunteer

Description:

The staff, volunteers and exhibits of Cahners ComputerPlace provide a highly diverse group of visitors the opportunity to learn about computer science topics such as robotics, artificial intelligence, and programming and to explore computers as a tool for helping us understand and change our world. The exhibit features an informal presentation area, and a variety of themed computer activity clusters.

Responsibilites:

Welcome visitors and facilitate their use of the software and hardware. Provide good customer service by sharing knowledge of the Museum's offerings, answering questions, and striving to ensure that each visitor's experience is enjoyable. Use props, tools and materials to engage visitors in activities/discussions related to computers and technology.

Qualifications:

*Summer positions for youth have been filled; however, youth ages 14 to 18 are encouraged to apply in late August, to start volunteering in the fall

*Minimum age requirement of 14 years old

*Good interpersonal skills

*Ability to work with children and adults

*Basic computer skills and willingness to learn more

Commitments:

Four to six month commitment, one 3.5 hour shift per week. Volunteer positions are available seven days a week. Shift choices: the morning shift from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM or the afternoon shift from 12:30 to 4:00 PM. Additionally, attendance at the New Volunteer Orientation session is required.
